St Nicholas crosses the Lake Hallstatt
An event for the whole family
The children of the little village of Obertraun eagerly await the arrival of St Nicholas one evening at the beginning of December. It is a very special moment when he is spotted on his traditional wooden boat. He is accompanied by Ruprecht. They carry sacks of treats for the children such as fruits and nuts and chocolate. The children wait on the lake shore with torches in their hands. St Nicholas reads a poem aloud and then disappears again into the darkness.
