At various locations in the Salzkammergut, the internationally renowned artist Eva Schlegel, in collaboration with 2MVD – Valerie Messini & Damjan Minovski – uses QR codes to make animated sculptures visible in the exterior and interior. Into the Deep is the fourth station in Ebensee. In Ebensee on the shores of Lake Traunsee, where sky and water meet at the Sky Waterwalk and the landing site brings us back down to earth, a new creation from the series of augmented reality installations Memories from the Future can be experienced from 2 September: Into the Deep – a large water funnel opens in the lake, into which water constantly runs ...
Since the beginning of the year and with the opening of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, animated eyes have been staring at us on other shores of Lake Traunsee, on the Bräuwiese and at the Spitzvilla, watching and following the explorers. At Toplitzsee, the focus is on the many secrets that the small mountain lake in the Styrian part of the Salzkammergut in the municipality of Grundlsee holds and reveals. Be it the mysterious Nazi treasure or the fabulous wildlife. In the Sudhaus Bad Ischl, stories about salt are retold and wrap around the visitors.
With their augmented reality installations, Eva Schlegel, Valerie Messini and Damjan Minovski expand the examination of the relationship between perception and spatial potentials, between the material and the immaterial, object and human being with a virtual medium. Sculptures are created in which gravity is suspended or – as in the case of the installation in Ebensee – an unknown gravitational field opens up. The idea of an underground connection to the Bräuwiese and the Toplitzsee is created.

Eva Schlegel (* in Hall in Tirol) is one of Austria's most internationally renowned artists. Studied at the Vienna University of Applied Arts. From 1997 to 2006 she taught art and photography at the Academy of Fine Arts. Participated in the Venice Biennale in 1995, and in 2011 she was herself commissioner for the Austria Pavilion at the Biennale. Continuous exhibition activities in Germany and abroad as well as many projects and permanent installations, including Oklahoma Contemporary Museum, Parlament, Vienna, Rigshospitalet Copenhagen, Novartis Campus Basel and many more. She has received numerous prizes and awards, such as the Austrian Decoration of Honour for Science and Art. As part of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, Eva Schlegel is realizing the project: Memories from the Future – Memories from the Future. At various locations in the Salzkammergut, animated sculptures will be visible in the exterior and interior by means of QR codes. Valerie Messini and Damjan Minovski (2MVD) explore the connection between built architecture and digital art as well as the virtual expansion of our world of experience and life made possible by new digital technologies. Both completed their architecture studies at the University of Applied Arts (Studio Prix) in Vienna in 2011. Since then, they have been working as independent artists in the fields of architecture, visual and digital arts. Both worked for renowned architectural firms, VM as a design architect and DM as a freelance visual artist. Since 2013, they have also been active in academia, both in teaching and research. http://www.2mvd.at
Since 2012, Valerie Messini, Damjan Minovski and Eva Schlegel have been working together repeatedly. They have realized several large-format installations and, since 2020, augmented reality works.
