"Idyll for Modernism – Arnold Schönberg at Lake Traunsee" - German title of the exhibition: "Idylle für die Moderne – Arnold Schönberg am Traunsee"
The composer, painter and writer Arnold Schönberg spent his summer holidays six times between 1905 and 1923 at Lake Traunsee. He stayed at the Hois'n inn for a few summers. On Lake Traunsee, Schönberg created chamber music, songs, piano pieces, paintings and drawings. In Traunkirchen, the first twelve-tone composition in music history was created in July 1921. The exhibition Idyll for Modernism – Arnold Schönberg on Lake Traunsee, which can be seen from September 1 to October 5, 2024, traces Schönberg's creative years at Lake Traunsee, creates a panorama of significant artist encounters of modernism and, away from the idyll, addresses the "summer resort anti-Semitism" of the early 1920s in the Salzkammergut. Arnold Schönberg's voice can be heard in the exhibition as well as excerpts from his Traunsee works.
