Do you know "Advent"?
In German-speaking countries like Austria, Switzerland and Germany, there is a very special time: "Advent". These are the days leading up to Christmas, or more specifically, the four weeks leading up to Christmas. A sign of this special time is the traditional Advent wreath. A round wreath of pine branches with four candles. Each Sunday a candle is lit until all candles are lit on the fourth Sunday of Advent. During the Advent season, the Salzkammergut shines not only in the warm glow of lights, but also with its authentic and down-to-earth traditions such as the numerous Christmas markets and the rustic Krampus runs. And thanks to an appearance by Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, Krampus has even made it to America. This and much more is tradition at its best. Want to know more? Sinister fellows as guests in Obertraun!
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Krampus spectacle of the "Krippenstoana Bergteifön" will take place in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt. Once again, the "Krippenstoana Bergteifön" (the name of the Krampus group) are organizing a meeting of neighboring and friendly groups from the Salzkammergut.
Krampus event for the whole family
More than 100 sinister fellows and eerily beautiful figures are expected on this evening. But don't worry – in addition to warming drinks, there is also a "Krampus-free" zone (i.e. a zone where the Krampus does not get up to mischief) for all visitors and spectators! By the way, the subsequent after-show party will take place for the first time this year in the Traunau festival grounds.
